Why Didn’t I Receive My Maryland Registration Sticker?

There are several common reasons customers do not receive their registration card and sticker after renewing online.

This is the most common issue.

Many drivers update:

• Insurance address
• Bank accounts

But they forget to update their address directly with the MVA.

The MVA mails your sticker to the address in its system — not your postal forwarding address.

If you moved and didn’t update MVA records, your sticker likely went to your previous residence.

2️⃣ The Address Is Missing an Apartment or Unit Number

Even one missing detail can cause delivery failure.

Common problems include:

• Missing apartment number
• Wrong building designation
• Incorrect ZIP code
• Typographical errors

Government mail may not always be forwarded or corrected automatically.

3️⃣ Mail Forwarding Does Not Always Apply to Government Documents

Some official mail is marked “Do Not Forward.”

If the mail is returned to the MVA as undeliverable, your registration may not be automatically reissued.

4️⃣ There Is a Flag or Hold on the Vehicle Record

Sometimes the renewal processes online, but a separate issue prevents normal mailing.

What Should You Do If You Didn’t Receive Your Sticker?

If your registration card and sticker did not arrive:

1. Confirm your address on file with MVA
2. Verify the renewal transaction was completed
3. Track your sticker with the MVA Product Tracking tool using your tag or title number (it shows stickers mailed in the last 90 days)
4. Check for any vehicle flags or holds
5. Request a duplicate registration if necessary (see how to get a replacement below)

If the original mailing was returned, you may need to update your address before requesting a duplicate.

How to Get a Replacement Registration Sticker in Maryland

If your sticker or registration card never arrived, you can order a replacement from the MVA. The MVA fee is $5 for a replacement (substitute) sticker and $5 for each duplicate registration card (MVA form VR-009 and MVA fee schedule).

There are three ways to request it:

• Online: through the myMVA Substitute Sticker service
• By mail: send a completed form VR-009, a copy of the registered owner’s driver’s license, and a check or money order to the MVA Registration Renewal Section, 6601 Ritchie Highway N.E., Glen Burnie, MD 21062
• In person: at an MVA full-service office or self-service kiosk, where registration stickers may be issued the same day

Important Reminder

The MVA does not:

• Email physical registration stickers
• Provide digital sticker downloads
• Automatically reroute returned government mail
